Scottie Scheffler earns 12th PGA TOUR title at Travelers Championship, further bolstering No. 1 position in U.S. Team standings

Tom Kim improves to No. 2 in International Team standings with runner-up finish

MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada – With just three months to go until the Presidents Cup returns to The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada, World No. 1 and top-ranked U.S. Team standout Scottie Scheffler defeated Tom Kim on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to win the Travelers Championship.

Scheffler opened the week at TPC River Highlands with a 5-under 65 and from there, steadily climbed the leaderboard putting himself in position to capture his 12th PGA TOUR title come Sunday. The 28-year-old was grouped with both Kim and Akshay Bhatia in the final grouping, which came down to the 72nd hole where Kim made a 10-foot birdie putt to force a playoff. The playoff ended as quickly as it began, with Scheffler making a par on the first playoff hole to win his sixth title of the season, becoming the first player to record six wins before July since Arnold Palmer in 1962.

While Scheffler remains firmly planted atop the U.S. Team standings, notable movement coming out of the Travelers Championship includes Patrick Cantlay and Bhatia, who both finished tied for fifth. Looking to qualify for his third Presidents Cup, Cantlay moved up one spot to No. 5 while 22-year-old Bhatia improved two spots to No. 13, seeking to become the first Junior Presidents Cup player to compete in the Presidents Cup.
