Hadwin, Bezuidenhout rise in International Team standings following top-five performances at the Memorial Tournament

Scheffler continues torrid 2024 pace with fifth PGA TOUR title

MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada – With just over 100 days to go until the Presidents Cup returns to The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada, Canadian Adam Hadwin made the biggest move in the International Team standings following a solo-third-place finish at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

Hadwin opened his week at Muirfield Village Golf Club with a 6-under 66 to grab the opening round lead before dropping down into a tie for second at 6-under 138 following a second-round 72. The 36-year-old was paired with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in Saturday’s final grouping but carded another even-par 72 to enter Sunday’s final round at T2, four shots off the pace.

While admittedly struggling with his game on a difficult day at the Memorial, Hadwin hung around Scheffler’s lead for much of the day before bogeying his final three holes to close in 2-over 74. The third-place finish marked his fifth top-10 on the season, and his best effort on the PGA TOUR since a runner-up at the Shriners Children’s Open last October.

More importantly, the week pushed him up six spots to No. 7 in the International Team standings for the Presidents Cup, which now has six Canadian players inside the top 20. After his first-round 66, Hadwin was asked about how important it was to make the International Team for 2024, and how much he and his fellow Canadians on TOUR discuss the opportunity.

“I think for us, the only topic of discussion would be how cool it would be to see how many we can get on the team, with it being in Canada, Mike as a captain. We talk about the potential for having four to six guys on the team, not so much how are you feeling about your chances or how do you feel -- you know, that sort of thing,” said Hadwin, who owns a 1-3-2 record competing in the 2017 and 2019 Presidents Cups. “As much as we're a brotherhood and we all want to see each other do well, I think we all want to beat each other as well.”

For Bezuidenhout, the fourth-place finish was his third top-10 of the 2024 season and second top-five, dating back to a runner-up at The American Express in January. The 30-year-old South African – who moved from No. 11 to No. 9 in the standings – is looking to secure a spot on his second International Team after making his debut at Quail Hollow Club in 2022, where he compiled a 1-0-1 record, including a 2-and-1 victory over Kevin Kisner in Sunday’s singles matches.

The 2024 International Team will be comprised of six (6) automatic qualifiers and (6) Captain’s picks, with the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) being used to determine the former. The automatic qualifiers will be the top six eligible international players in the OWGR after completion of the 2024 BMW Championship.

For Scheffler, an incredible 2024 season added another chapter at the Memorial Tournament with an 8-under 280 total giving way to a one-shot victory over Collin Morikawa. The win marked his fifth in his last eight starts and allowed him to become the second player since 1950 with five TOUR victories including a major, before the U.S. Open (Arnold Palmer/1960, 1962).

While Scheffler remained firmly planted atop the U.S. Team standings, the runner-up finish from Morikawa moved him from No. 4 to No. 3 in the standings. The solo-second marked his third top-five finish in as many starts on TOUR (T4/PGA Championship, 4th/Charles Schwab Challenge).

Scheffler and Morikawa are looking to make their second career appearances in the Presidents Cup after representing the U.S. Team in 2022, compiling 0-3-1 and 2-1-0 records, respectively.

The 2024 U.S. Team will be comprised of six (6) automatic qualifiers and six (6) Captain’s picks, with a weighted system based on FedExCup Points from January 1, 2023, through August 25, 2024. The automatic qualifiers will be the top six eligible U.S. players in the OWGR after completion of the 2024 BMW Championship.
