Things to Know
- Justin comes from a family of golfers; his grandfather, Paul, was a lifelong club pro, but also an accomplished player who competed in the same events as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan; Father; Mike, followed his father into the club pro ranks; When Justin won the 2017 PGA Championship, he became the ninth PGA Champion who was a son of a PGA of America professional.
- At age 7, was in the gallery of the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla is his hometown of Louisville. As he watched Tiger Woods win his fifth major, he knew that’s what he wanted to do with his life. He continues to use this story to poke fun at Woods for their age difference.
- Passionate Alabama Football fan; was an accomplished golfer on the golf team from 2011-13; has developed an incredible friendship with Nick Saban which started in school when Justin was one of the last guys to leave the practice facility. Saban would come out late in the afternoon and they would chip together. The pair will call or text after Justin wins, or the Crimson Tide win.
- At the start of each season, while flying to his first tournament, pulls out his phone and writes down his goals for the upcoming season. He will never answer questions about his goals during the season, but he will reveal the notes on his phone at the conclusion of the season.
- Thomas has won 11 times since joining the PGA TOUR in the 2014-15 season. Only one player has more titles in that span (Dustin Johnson, 12). Thomas’ 10 wins since the start of the 2016-17 season are two more than anyone else.
- His breakout season came in 2017, when he won five times and claimed the FedExCup.
