Things to Know
- Comes from very humble means from a small town outside of Taipei.
- He started playing golf at age 5, practicing at the golf course while his mother worked as a caddie.
- Speaking no English at the time, he came to IMG Academy for all four years of high school after coach Tim Sheredy (has coached LPGA stars Yani Tseng and Jessica Korda, Peter Uihlein and Ben An), who first spotted C.T.’s talent and recommended him for a full scholarship.
- He then got a scholarship to the University of Washington, where he was the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world during his junior year. In 2007, he was the youngest U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist since Bobby Jones.
- Turned pro in 2015 and joined the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada. Joined the Korn Ferry Tour in 2016 and earned his PGA TOUR card in 2017.
- His wife, Michelle, follows him for the entire course of nearly every round of every tournament. She also plays golf well.
- Michelle and C.T. were introduced as teenagers in Chinese Taipei by Michelle’s swing coach. Since nobody in C.T.’s family could speak English and she could, she helped him do research, manage his schedule and apply for college. Michelle remained in Chinese Taipei while C.T. was at the University of Washington but traveled with him during the summers. She was working for her mother’s company in Chinese Taipei but decided to give up the job because C.T. needed and wanted someone to help him on the road. Their first date was at the 2013 U.S. Open, and they got married in December 2016, just after C.T. moved up from the Korn Ferry Tour to the PGA TOUR.
- When C.T. needed a replacement caddie at the 2018 Wyndham Championship, Michelle caddied for him. He finished T2. Later in the week, C.T. took to Twitter to announce Michelle’s retirement as his caddie.
- The first year of the C.T. Pan Junior Championship through the AJGA was held April 18-21 in Kingwood, Texas at The Club of Kingwood. Pan won the RBC Heritage on the same day as the final round of his junior tournament.
