Ryan Fox propels six spots to No. 2 in the International Team standings with Open Championship victory
Sam Burns up to No. 4 in U.S. Team standings with third-place finish at Royal Birkdale
CHICAGO — Building on the momentum of Tom Kim’s win at the Genesis Scottish Open, New Zealand’s Ryan Fox made the biggest leap in the International Team standings on Sunday, earning his third PGA TOUR victory at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club to move up six spots to No. 2.
Fox earned his third PGA TOUR title and first major championship on Sunday at Royal Birkdale at the age of 39, becoming the second player from New Zealand to win The Open Championship. With a win, he moved up 34 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking to 22nd and propelled himself to No. 2 in the International Team standings, trailing only Si Woo Kim. The 39-year-old is seeking his first Presidents Cup appearance and would mark the first player from New Zealand since 2015 (Danny Lee).
In addition to Fox, other international players that improved their positions include Adam Scott (No. 9 to No. 7), Casey Jarvis (No. 12 to No. 11) and Sungjae Im (No. 15 to No. 13).
Five-time PGA TOUR winner Sam Burns once again made a strong climb in the U.S. Team standings, moving three positions to No. 4 after finishing third at The Open, his second top-three finish in a major championship this season (2nd/2026 U.S. Open). Scheffler maintains his position at No. 1 in the U.S. Team standings following a T4 finish at Royal Birkdale, his 19th top 10 finish at a major championship. Scheffler is seeking his third Presidents Cup appearance (2022, 2024) where he holds a record of 3-3-1.
The 2026 International Team will be comprised of six (6) automatic qualifiers and (6) Captain’s Picks, with the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) used to determine the former. The automatic qualifiers will be determined following the TOUR Championship.
The 2026 U.S. Team will be comprised of six (6) automatic qualifiers and six (6) Captain’s Picks, with the ranking determined through a weighted system based on FedExCup Points from January 1, 2025, through August 23, 2026. The six automatic qualifiers will be determined following the 2026 BMW Championship.
General admission tickets for the Presidents Cup are now on sale to witness the 16th edition of the PGA TOUR’s biennial global team competition, set to be contested at Medinah Country Club’s Course #3, September 22-27, 2026.
