Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans receives $150,000 donation from Presidents Cup and the George and Cindy Rusu Family Foundation ahead of 2026 event at Medinah Country Club, September 22–27

CHICAGO – (April 21, 2026) – As part of its ongoing commitment to investing in local communities and building a lasting legacy, the Presidents Cup today announced a $150,000 donation in partnership with the George and Cindy Rusu Family Foundation to support the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans (MSHV) is dedicated to ending veteran homelessness and restoring hope. Through housing, employment support, and essential wraparound services, they equip at-risk veterans and their resilient families to rebuild stable, independent lives.

“MSHV is honored to have the Presidents Cup play a vital role in sustaining and expanding programs for homeless and at-risk veterans,” said Christine Lewis, Chief Executive Officer at the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. “As we look ahead, we are developing new strategies to ensure that no veteran is left behind. This means providing individualized support such as housing, job training, mental health services, and more to empower veterans to rebuild their lives and thrive independently. The Presidents Cup's impact on the veteran community will change lives and restore hope for those who have given so much for our nation.”

Founded by veterans for veterans, MSHV was established and incorporated in 2000, marking the beginning of what is now more than 25 years of unwavering service to veterans in need. The organization was co-founded by Bob Adams, a Vietnam combat veteran and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and Dirk Enger, a Gulf War veteran. Mr. Adams has specialized training in treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a condition experienced by many of the veterans he works with. In 2004, the co-founders teamed up to explore veteran housing solutions in DuPage County. They collaborated with government agencies, veteran service organizations, and trade unions. By 2005, they had formed an active board and brought on William E. Gahlberg, whose support helped launch the first shelter in Wheaton, Illinois, in 2007.

As we look ahead, we are developing new strategies to ensure that no veteran is left behind. This means providing individualized support such as housing, job training, mental health services, and more to empower veterans to rebuild their lives and thrive independently. The Presidents Cup's impact on the veteran community will change lives and restore hope for those who have given so much for our nation.

“The Presidents Cup is honored to support the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and the essential work they do to serve those who have served our country,” said Joie Chitwood, Executive Director of the 2026 Presidents Cup. “Through this contribution, we hope to play a small part in helping veterans access the stability, care, and opportunities they deserve. Giving back in meaningful ways like this is central to the legacy we strive to create in every host community.”

The MSHV serves more than 505 unique veteran households and their families across Illinois each year. They work to ease the suffering of veterans and their families and to empower them to become productive members of their community.

“The George and Cindy Rusu Family Foundation is proud to partner with the Presidents Cup to support organizations that are making a real difference for families and veterans in DuPage County,” said George V. Rusu, Chairman of Captive Resources and The George and Cindy Rusu Family Foundation. “These causes reflect our shared commitment to strengthening communities and ensuring people have access to safe housing, critical resources, and long‑term support. We’re grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside the Presidents Cup and these outstanding nonprofit partners in advancing that mission.”

The donation was announced during a community reception on Tuesday morning, April 21, at the future site of Hero Homes, a new 40-unit apartment complex, in Wheaton, Illinois. The event was attended by leaders from the Presidents Cup, Medinah Country Club, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, and DuPage County board members.

Since its inception in 1994, the Presidents Cup has generated more than $56 million for charitable causes worldwide, reflecting the PGA TOUR’s commitment to giving back. The 2026 event will take place at Medinah Country Club, marking a return to the Chicagoland area.
