Cameron Young wins THE PLAYERS Championship and moves to No. 2 in 2026 Presidents Cup U.S. Team Standings

Hideki Matsuyama and Si Woo Kim hold firm atop International Team rankings

CHICAGO – With six months to go until the 2026 Presidents Cup debuts at Medinah Country Club’s Course #3, 28-year-old Cameron Young etched his name into PGA TOUR history after defeating one of the best fields in golf at THE PLAYERS Championship, improving four spots to No. 2, trailing only World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in the U.S. Team standings.

Young overcame a four-stroke deficit to defeat a stacked leaderboard including Ludvig Åberg, Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele. His win at TPC Sawgrass marked his second career win in his last 11 starts after claiming a dominant victory at the 2025 Wyndham Championship.

Prior to joining the winner’s circle, the 28-year-old had been knocking on the door, notching seven runner-up finishes during a span of 93 starts on TOUR. Young is seeking to qualify for his second Presidents Cup appearance after being selected as a Captain’s Pick by Davis Love III in 2022, collecting a 1-2-1 record at Quail Hollow Club

Other notable movement in the U.S. Team standings includes Jacob Bridgeman who finished T5 at THE PLAYERS, moving the 2026 Genesis Invitational winner from No. 8 to No. 5 and putting him inside the top 6 automatic qualifiers as he seeks to make his Presidents Cup debut.

While there was no movement within the top six of the International Team standings, Captain Geoff Ogilvy’s Australian contingency is growing with four of the top 10 players in the standings hailing from Down Under: Min Woo Lee (No. 3), Jason Day (No. 6), Ryan Fox (No. 7), Adam Scott (No. 8).

The 2026 U.S. Team will be comprised of six (6) automatic qualifiers and six (6) Captain’s Picks, with the ranking determined through a weighted system based on FedExCup Points from January 1, 2025, through August 23, 2026. The six automatic qualifiers will be finalized following the 2026 BMW Championship (Aug. 23).
