FedExCup leader and four-time PGA TOUR winner Chris Gotterup moves to No. 4 in 2026 Presidents Cup U.S. Team standings

Gotterup reaches career-high ranking and sets sights on Presidents Cup debut

CHICAGO – With 222 days remaining until the 2026 Presidents Cup debuts at Medinah Country Club’s Course #3 in Chicago, Illinois, the U.S. and International Team standings are beginning to take shape. Four-time PGA TOUR winner Chris Gotterup has rapidly ascended to No. 4 in the Presidents Cup U.S. Team standings after becoming the season’s first multiple winner.

The FedExCup leader is set to make his first start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after claiming two victories in his first three starts this season at the Sony Open in Hawaii and last week’s WM Phoenix Open. The 26-year-old began the final round of the WM Phoenix Open four strokes back of Presidents Cup International Team stalwart Hideki Matsuyama (1st in INTL Team standings) before ultimately winning with a birdie-3 on the first playoff hole.

Prior to turning professional in 2024, Gotterup was a standout collegiate player at Rutgers University for four seasons before transferring to the University of Oklahoma for his final season of eligibility, ultimately finishing No. 7 in the PGA TOUR University Class of 2022. During his collegiate tenure, he amassed accolades including the 2021-22 Jack Nicklaus and Fred Haskins Awards – two of three collegiate national player of the year awards – in addition to garnering consensus First Team All-America honors, Big 12 Conference Golfer of the Year honors, and an All-Big 12 recognition in his lone season at Oklahoma.

The 2026 U.S. Team will be comprised of six (6) automatic qualifiers and six (6) Captain’s picks, with the ranking determined through a weighted system based on FedExCup Points from January 1, 2025, through August 23, 2026. The automatic qualifiers will be determined following the 2026 BMW Championship.

The 2026 International Team will be comprised of six (6) automatic qualifiers and (6) Captain’s picks, with the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) being used to determine the former. The automatic qualifiers will be determined following the TOUR Championship.
