Presidents Cup announces $250,000 charitable donation benefitting First Tee- Greater Chicago
Contribution underscores the Presidents Cup’s commitment to lasting impact in Chicago
CHICAGO – As part of its commitment to investing in local communities and building a lasting legacy, the Presidents Cup proudly announced a $250,000 donation to First Tee – Greater Chicago. Golf’s premier global team event, featuring the sport’s top U.S. and International players, will be contested at Medinah Country Club, September 22-27, 2026.
“In its 30-year history, the Presidents Cup has always been about more than world-class golf — it’s about creating a meaningful legacy in the communities that welcome this event,” said 2026 Presidents Cup Executive Director Joie Chitwood. “We are proud to support First Tee – Greater Chicago with this $250,000 donation, which will help expand their impact and empower even more young people through the life skills and values taught by the game of golf.”
The donation was presented during a special event at Soldier Field on Wednesday, October 8 as part of Presidents Cup Captains’ Visit. The event brought together U.S. Team Captain Brandt Snedeker and International Team Captain Geoff Ogilvy for a press conference marking the one-year countdown to the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club. Following remarks, the festivities continued with a charity shootout benefiting First Tee – Greater Chicago, which was formatted into a spirited U.S. vs. International competition.
Alongside the captains, each team featured representation from First Tee participants and celebrity shots from Staley the Bear and Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles, creating a memorable showcase and celebration. The check presentation served as a highlight of the day, underscoring the Presidents Cup’s commitment to leaving a lasting impact in the Greater Chicago.
“On behalf of our entire First Tee - Greater Chicago community, we are deeply grateful to the Presidents Cup for this extraordinary investment in our mission and youth serving programs,” said First Tee – Greater Chicago CEO Jill Sylvester. “This gift will allow us to expand our impact and reach even more young people across our community, providing a curriculum of life skills, mentorship and leadership opportunities through the game of golf. This investment is truly game-changing and together, we are shaping the next generation of leaders both on and off the course.”
This year marks First Tee – Greater Chicago’s 25th anniversary, a milestone that celebrates a quarter-century of empowering youth through golf. The charitable dollars from the Presidents Cup will help First Tee – Greater Chicago continue its mission to inspire and equip young people with the life skills, confidence, and values they need to thrive on and off the course. Together, the Presidents Cup and First Tee – Greater Chicago are building a stronger, more inclusive future for the next generation of leaders.
The donation brings the 2026 Presidents Cup’s charitable donation total to $500,000, with the First Tee donation coming on the heels of a $250,000 contribution to the DuPage County Crisis Recovery Center in September. Since its inception in 1994, the Presidents Cup has generated more than $56.5 million for charitable causes globally. The 2026 edition of the tournament marks the event's first playing in the Chicagoland area, where the golf community and civic leadership have long partnered in driving positive change.
