$150,000 benefitted seven area non-profit organizations this past year
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – The Presidents Cup announced today charitable contributions from 2021 totaling $150,000 benefitting seven non-profit organizations in the Greater Charlotte area. Golf’s premier global team event, featuring the sport’s top U.S. and International players, will be contested at Quail Hollow Club Sept. 20-25, 2022.
“Immersing ourselves into the Charlotte community was one of the first priorities we laid out for the 2022 Presidents Cup,” said Executive Director Adam Sperling. “Part of what defines this city are the many non-profit organizations giving back to the heart of this community, anchored by key leaders who have created stability and growth while establishing a pathway of success for future generations. Our goal was to align with causes the city of Charlotte has demonstrated passion toward, and we hope today’s announcement helps those efforts while providing a glimpse into what’s to come over the next year.”
During the official Captains Visit in September with U.S. Team Captain Davis Love III and International Team Captain Trevor Immelman, the Presidents Cup announced Atrium Health as the Official Health Care Provider for the 2022 event. To commemorate the partnership, tournament officials presented a donation to the Atrium Health Foundation in a ceremony at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital. The partnership will provide on-site physicians and medical support teams to deliver care to spectators, volunteers, staff, players and caddies throughout tournament week, as well as shaded grandstands, educational elements and a Family Care Suite.
The First Tee of Greater Charlotte also received a donation in conjunction with the launch of the Presidents Cup golf simulator inside SouthPark Mall, located in front of Belk. First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them by seamlessly integrating the game of golf with life skills challenges.
First Tee staff, students and volunteers will join the tournament team this month to host the SouthPark Mall simulator activation, which will remain open daily through Wednesday, Dec. 29. Fans will be able to test their skills on one of the most demanding holes on the PGA TOUR while also receiving access to exclusive tournament merchandise and Presidents Cup tickets available for purchase. On the weekends during the promotion, the Presidents Cup trophy will be available for photo opportunities as well.
The remaining contributions were gifted to impactful local charities in the heart of Charlotte, including the Augustine Literacy Project, Charlotte Family Housing, NXT/CLT, Renaissance West Community Initiative and Lorien Academy of the Arts.
Since the inception of the Presidents Cup in 1994, more than $54.4 million has been generated from event proceeds. Over the past 25 years, the Presidents Cup has impacted more than 460 charities in 18 countries worldwide. As part of the Presidents Cup, each player, captain, and captain’s assistant receives $150,000 to distribute to the charitable cause of their choice.
