Event has now generated more than US$54.4 million globally since 1994
Tournament officials today announced that US$5.3 million in charitable contributions were generated from the 2019 Presidents Cup. As part of the US$5.3 million, each player, captain, captain’s assistant and Junior Presidents Cup captain received US$150,000 to distribute to the charitable cause of their choice. Since the inception of the Presidents Cup in 1994, more than US$54.4 million has been generated from event proceeds. Over the past 25 years, the Presidents Cup has impacted more than 460 charities in 18 countries worldwide.
During the devastating bushfires that affected several regions throughout Australia, the Presidents Cup and its partners announced in late January that it had raised an additional US$1.1 million for those relief efforts, with a portion of that total contributing to the US$5.3 million generated.
“Staged in arguably the sporting capital of the world, the 2019 Presidents Cup in Melbourne will be remembered as one of the most inspiring and exciting competitions in the event’s history,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan. “From two legendary captains in Tiger Woods and Ernie Els inspiring their teams down to the final match at one of golf’s crown jewels, Royal Melbourne Golf Club, the Presidents Cup as a celebration of golf undoubtably reached new heights. And with the event generating $5.3 million for charities around the world, it is fitting to pause and celebrate the Presidents Cup’s charitable impact as a result of a truly memorable week for the world of golf.”
“Charitable giving is at the heart of what we do at the PGA TOUR, and the Presidents Cup continues to be a primary example of that commitment. In addition to Citi and Rolex as the event’s Global Partners, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to every player, captain, captain’s assistants and Junior Presidents Cup captain for their involvement in this great event and for seeking opportunities within their communities and around the world to impact lives for the better.”
